We are so very sad to share news of the death of our much loved colleague and friend, Gina Clayton.
Gina was a founder member of South Yorkshire Refugee Law and Justice and until recently was chair of our trustees. She believed passionately in the right of everyone to good quality legal advice and worked so hard to ensure that SYRLJ played its part in achieving this aim.
Gina has been so much part of everything that Sheffield City of Sanctuary represents. She has worked tirelessly to play a part in changing the lives of so many who have come to our city seeking sanctuary. She has also played a huge role in challenging the systems that have created the hostile environment, and which have made the lives of those who flee persecution so difficult.
We will all miss her so much, but we are all so grateful for the legacy that she left for us. Gina treated every single person she encountered with respect and care – she taught us all so much about humanity.
We are all deeply grateful that she has been part of our lives.
We would also like to say a huge thank you to all of you who are making a donation to SYRLJ in Gina’s memory.
